Reduce Worry: Consider the Odds

When people are fearful and anxious their brain usually overestimates danger and underestimates its ability to cope with stressful situations. People act and feel as if their worst fears will come true. Reviewing the likelihood or probability on a scale of 1-10 is an effective way to reduce anxiety and worry. Doing the math or considering the odds is good for the anxious brain. After listing a fear or worry, check the number that best reflects your estimation of the likelihood that your fear or worry will happen. Considering the odds is designed to help you learn how to manage fear and worry, without letting it overwhelm you. Remember that some fear and worry is good in helping prepare and protect us from real threats.
