Schedule Worries
Worry can help prepare us to take care of health, children, families and responsibilities. However when we worry so much that it makes us sick, it is helpful to learn skills to reduce this excessive chronic type of worry. A helpful technique for people who worry all the time is to schedule 10 to 15 minutes per day to worry. Find a room in the house to sit down and schedule a specific time to devote to important personal worries. Try to notice what you do when you worry, and what you do when you leave the room to begin to learn how not to worry. To worry less try different distraction techniques like thought-stopping or engaging in absorbing activities that require concentration.
